On The Improbably Fascinating Story of the Ski Industry and the Media
I live in CO and work in the ski industry and am not surprised by this at all. I was in Winter Park one day last winter when I saw that the Winter Park twitter account had said something to the effect of "it's dumping here in WP." I looked out my window and saw that it wasn't, in fact, snowing at all. I tweeted to WP, "where are you? It isn't snowing here where I am in WP." and was subsequently blocked from the WP account. Most skiers in Colorado know, and the local media acknowledges, that snowing in one ski area might mean sun at an area on the other side of the Continental Divide. I have no problem when the state hypes its snowfall in the national media, ie the weather channel and ski magazine. That marketing is geared to the person who sees the snowfall in the state in December and makes reservations to come out in January and I say bring 'em on.
