I'd be careful not to water the plant EVERY day, unless you water it very little. Plants get all yellow-leaved and sad if you fuss them too much. The rest of Polly's advice was, as usual, fantastic. Spot on and marvelous.
Why is cat ownership shorthand for companionship failure? I for one would be thrilled to find a 40-ish individual with a bit of a past, who has left that phase of life behind and collected a menagerie of friendly animals, a tangled garden, and volunteer gig that makes children squeal with delight when said individual walks through the door. LW, your 'throw in the chips' plan sounds like my dream date. I might even go so far as to say I'm not interested in anyone who hasn't yet hit cat/garden point yet (And maybe also splits firewood in chilly weather). Settle into yourself. There is still an unknown someone out there in the wide world who will adore you for doing it.
@Miyax Me too! I sit at my desk and compulsively check, no matter how busy my day.
