On Don't Stop Running

@frontsidebus Man, I had really hoped assholes like you would be taking a week or two off to rest up and be ready to belittle and demoralize people and things with renewed vigor in 2013, but, alas. Merry Christmas.

On A Guide to the Spooky Scary Secret Monsters of Every State

@KFo Indeed. In Tucson, my brother once dated a Mexican girl who legitimately believed that the chupacabra was a real thing that would attack our labrador if we weren't careful.

On A Ton of Long Things You Can Start Watching on Netflix Now!

"Medicine for Melancholy" just popped up on Netflix Instant--at least I hadn't seen it there before--and that's pretty essential viewing if you want to know more about black people and relationships and San Francisco's gradual banishment of its black community. It's not long, but you'll have a lot to think about once it's over.

On Roach-Eating Contest Ends With Winner's Terrible Death

You read it four times and you laugh and laugh but the fifth time it hits you and it's just so sad and that's one of the many great things about Ken Layne's writing.

On Yes, If You Want Me To Read An Article, Do Title It "Warning: Genetically Modified Humans"

I was recently talking to a couple Canadian geneticists at a dinner party about pre-natal screening and they were really not very receptive to the idea at all and it actually made them very mad to even chat about it and I had to pivot the conversation into a totally different direction but it was too late and they were angry for the rest of the night. Good goat cheese, though.

On Goat Video G.O.A.T.

The only goat video that matters is the one in which a goat screams like a man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0-lkl9TzsU

All others are pretenders to the goat throne.

On The Complications of Appreciating Rap Beef

This is an important discussion that happens too seldom.

Anyway, sure, the beef track is art, I think. But it's also art from young black men that's about "putting guns in the face" of other young black men. And lately I'm having a harder time ignoring that this kind of art exists contemporaneously with young black men actually putting guns in the faces of other young black men, and sometimes pulling the trigger.

I guess it's a sure sign I'm turning into my dad: Rap was really fun before I started reading the crime reports.
