I watched a PBS show one time which said that the black plague could be traced back to volcanic activity because the ash lowered the temperature because of that fleas bodies don't function properly and keep a certain amount of blood higher up in their bodies which is how the infection spread. So...plague, caused by volcanoes. Possibly.
