I've never heard of the term "Forever Sweater" before, but this piece made me realize I actually own one. It's a Katharine Hamnett black cardigan that I bought at Barney's (when the store was on 17th Street, if that tells you anything.) I don't remember how much it cost, but I remember it was a ridiculous amount of money for a barely-employed art school grad to spend on anything, much less a sweater. My girlfriend at the time convinced me it was worth it, though I'm sure, in part, to make herself feel less guilty about the money she was laying down for her own things. Regardless, she was right. 25 years and counting and the moths (never afraid to gnaw through everything else I own) haven't touched it -- out of respect, I imagine.
