On Do Bicyclists Deserve Sympathy?

@kitten_witawip You are not at all hysterically exaggerating. Bloomington, Indiana. I live there. It is a paradise of multiuse pathways, sustainability, and cyclists who must burst into flames should they do more than slow slightly at stop signs.

No hyperbole, I have lived here 10 years, I have never ONCE seen a cyclist ACTUALLY stop at a stop sign. I HAVE had one slide up alongside my car, not stop at the stop sign, and smash into the passenger side of my car when I was turning right (after stopping at said stop sign.) CYCLIST. HIT MY CAR. THEN GOT MAD AT ME.

Seriously, I want to bike more, but I'm worried there's something about it that will make me dumb.

On The Awesome Album Milla Jovovich Made When She Was 16

@Antennapedia And now I'm listening to it and I'm 15 and my first real boyfriend is entering the periphery of my adolescent existence and NOW I HAVE TO GO CALL MY THERAPIST.

On The Awesome Album Milla Jovovich Made When She Was 16

OMG OMG OMG, I LITERALLY thought I was the only person who'd ever heard, much less OWNED this album. I'm so ashamed of how much I like it, even after ignoring it for a decade.

On Americans Starting To Be All, "Wait, What's Going On With The Weather?"

Impossible. New ticker's worth at least another 40 years, and the evil in his veins alone should keep him well preserved into the next millennia. Death, Taxes, and Dick Cheney, is what I'm saying.

On The Forgotten Music Of Ronnie Lane

Awww... I love Ronnie Lane, and yes, it was Rushmore that actually turned me on to him. Well, rather, REMINDED me who he was, because my parents played his albums when I was kid growing up in Texas in the 80's when I had no idea who anybody making music was. It was sort of like coming full circle.

Also, fun fact: if you pause that first youtube clip at 2:41, you'll see my husband's name right in the middle of the credits.

On A Map Of Occupy Needs Across The Country

I'm pretty sure this is out of date, as I live in Bloomington and police disbanded the Occupy protest in People's park weeks ago. They can still PROTEST, but there's no tents allowed and no loitering overnight. Surely if they're going home they can do laundry?

Also, I'm not even going to go into the inherent hilarity of the Occupy protest in BLOOMINGTON, a haven of liberalism in a sea of red counties (a compliment, I assure you). Occupy in general has a point, but I'm not sure a town where most of the banks are credit unions or small locals is the best target...

On A Conspiracy of Hogs: The McRib as Arbitrage

Wait, didn't Robert C. Baker invent the chicken nugget as a food scientist at Cornell? There's a hall named after him and a elegiac nerd pop song about him and everything. http://www.paulandstorm.com/lyrics/nugget-man/
