On The Oscars are Next Week and Nope, I Still Haven’t Seen 'Avatar'
"Avatar" was a trite, overwrought, character-depth-free, boring piece of computer-generated scenery. The intended "message" about preserving nature and/or indigenous people was completely steamrolled by the utter shittiness of every single non-visual aspect of the movie. I checked my phone eight times, and like Tulletilsynet, took the 3D glasses off just for a break from the insipidness. If only I had memorized an Awl post to recite to myself!

On Gluttony with Mary HK Choi: Strawberried Peanut Butter M&Ms
I call wrong-o on those strawberry-milkshake Oreos; they were heaven-sent. My favorite local drinking/eating establishment made ice cream out of them (augmented with real strawberries) and it was easily one of the top 10 most delicious foodstuffs I've ever put in my mouth.

On The Dirty Talk Of The Town: Profanity At "The New Yorker"
This is driving me apeshit but is also proving William Shawn's point perfectly... last year, TNY ran a profile of a male playwright or writer (I THINK it was by John Lahr?) that discussed how the subject of the article owned a sculpture of his longtime partner's "cock and ass." Does anyone else remember this?! It was a well-written profile and I'm so ashamed that I can't remember the subject OR the model for the cock and ass.
