On Last Night: PEN Gala, Hole

Doree, I think you're thinking of the National Book Awards. That was fall 2007 and I'd only just gotten here. Not only did I not own a suit, I remember asking you, at like 5pm the night of, whether the NBAs were a really important thing for me to go to. Then I went to Zara on 5th and got a suit, right off the rack. I didn't even need to get it altered or anything.

Just wanted to correct the record here.

On Internet Timewasters: Old Sierra Games

It was IMPOSSIBLE to beat this game. I got to the end several times only to get the questions wrong and lose.

On Internet Timewasters: Old Sierra Games

Actually, I guess "humorless" really only applies to King's Quest, since Space Quest was also pretty funny.

On Internet Timewasters: Old Sierra Games

Before this gets any further, can all my people who preferred the LucasArts games please come forward? Sierra adventure games were to a large extent humorless. I guess Leisure Suit Larry is an exception, but I wasn't really allowed to play that as a kid. LucasArts on the other hand, had Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max Hit the Road, and later, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. Those games were hilarious! Also dying was not a thing that could happen.

On That Janet Maslin Doesn't Like Joshua Ferris' New Book Doesn't Mean Anything

"I am sorry to those words" = litbloggers' equivalent of "no homo"

On You Take The Good, You Take The Bad

This reminds me of my favorite interview with Lil' Wayne, where AllHipHop.com asks him about "Shooter," the song from The Carter II that features Robin Thicke on the hook:

AllHipHop.com: With "Shooters," did you hear the original version by Robin Thicke and just wanted to redo it?
Lil' Wayne: Yeah, hell yeah. I heard it years ago, on his album.
AllHipHop.com: Do you think that would surprise people, like, "Weezy listens to Thicke?"
Lil' Wayne: Fuck people.

On A Common Misunderstanding of the Lyrics of Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind"

Can you give another example of him doing that?
