On How You Do and Do Not Wear a Tie

Full windsors are for NFL studio analysts only. Black suits are pretty much for Regis and morticians, but there is some wiggle room in the charcoal region.

Also the Thom Browne short pants look needs to go away. Looks fine on Thom Browne/other leprechauns but should go in the junk pile with club collars and, frankly, skinny ties. Just wear an arm garter and get over yourself.

On How Not to Run a Print Magazine

Can the Brandon Holley who tended bar at Max Fish travel forward in time to give this Brandon Holley a whack upside her head with an espadrille? Even a man's espadrille would do, I hear they're in this year.

On Announcing the Permanent NYC Startup Bus

Given my experience on the bus, no toilet would have been a blessing. Blech.

On Quit Your Job! A Q&A with Dan Shanoff of Quickish (And His Wife Too)

Really impressed with what Dan has created. Yay, content being worth something! Even if it's pre-revenue, that still means the biz side folks think it's coming. No small accomplishment.

On 'The Dead Do Not Improve': 2012's Novel to Anticipate

Yay, good writers being paid money to write stuff! Lindsay is a great editor so I'm sure she'll help nurse this book along.

For the record my nonexistent SJ-titled book is "You're the Only Ten I See."

On Drink Rosé Whenever You Want

Don't forget that much of the rosé discussion centers around when it's appropriate to drink it on Long Island, shudder.

On Gypsy Crime Nation Seeks Solution For Gypsy Crime Problem

Hungary's pretty functional compared to Albania, where I was instructed to "watch where you step" because "the gypsies like to steal the manhole covers and storm drains." It made them seem like mischievous elves instead of, you know, a suppressed minority.

On Saturday Night's East Village Riot

This rolled right past my apartment building. The fight moved all the way from A to First and back again; I'd say there were about 25 people involved in total. It was at least 15-20 minutes before there were sirens, too. Good job NYPD!

On Anne Rice Gives It to the Publishing Industry Straight

The new pricing system is not an "experiment" but rather Apple trying to lure publishers away from the Kindle to the iPad by promising to use agency system pricing and taking that small cut for themselves. While it's essential for publishers to be able to set their own prices for eBooks, how long will Apple go with the flow in a system that's the opposite of how they price songs on iTunes?
