On You're Welcome, Benoit Denizet-Lewis

@iplaudius
Benoit? Denizet? Hyphen? He was probably just trying to compensate for his gay-ass name.

Bahahahahaha I'm glad someone else had the same totally juvenile first reaction that I had. Also, perhaps this article would have been of some use if he'd at least explicitly acknowledged the internalized homophobia of his youth, or given a sign that he'd developed in some way? As it reads, he doesn't seem to see anything wrong with his early thinking. I kept waiting for the neat narrative turn, and it just didn't happen...

On Best Movie Closing Songs, In Order

How about Lou Reed's "Street Hassle" when the kid flees the hospital and runs uptown at the end of The Squid and the Whale? Hard to imagine a better match for the audience's emotions at that point.

On 111 Male Characters Of British Literature, In Order Of Bangability

YES to Robert Frobisher. My only real gripe would be the exclusion of Michael Moorcock, who wrote into being any number of bangable gents. But any list of this kind is going to have its faults.

On Some Awesome Things To Say To A Cancer Patient

To those who think this post is too harsh: Yes, of course there are people who are so overwhelmed, afraid, nervous, etc. that they will say stupid shit to someone who has cancer. Yes, people are fallible. But that's the real value of this post. Those of us who are lucky enough to not have cancer will read, remember, and not say these things in the future. The subhead says "Be Less Stupid," and this situation is no exception.
