I suggest reading the Forrest Gump book, written by Winston Groom. A lot of its events are crazier (Gump becomes a pro wrestler, an astronaut, and at one point carries a naked Raquel Welch down Hollywood Boulevard) and still grounded in reality (as in, if you are a woman who falls in love with Forrest Gump, God will probably not punish you with AIDS).
