On NYC Cops Not Rapists, Says Jury

Wow. This is so disheartening I'm at a loss for words. Granted I did not sit on the jury, I have not seen/heard all the evidence, nor am I familiar with the instructions given to the jury for each of the counts. However, what I've learned is that a rapist can get into your bed when you're drunk, you can remember being penetrated (and I have had very drunk sex where I remember not much else but the fact that "it" happened), tape the guy admitting to using a condom, and the rapist will walk away free. Rape culture in America. So damn disheartening.

On An Easy Three Step Plan for Gawker Users After the Hack

Thanks to Foster Kamer's pettiness, I have been disallowed from commenting on Gawker's sites for a few years and as a thank you, I now have to remember all the sites I have used the same email and password for. Thanks Gawker!

On The Real Cost of Drinking and Driving (Besides, Like, Vehicular Manslaughter)

@NinetyNine - I'm not going to deny that I never drove when I knew I maybe should not have. But the funny thing about DUI's is that you're more likely to get them when you're sure you haven't drank a lot because you're going to probably be driving a bit more recklessly (I think the only time I ever followed the speed limit was when I was tipsy) AND, most importantly, you're going to be dumb enough to tell the cops you had only one or two drinks...because it's true, and you're proud of your restraint. Only problem is, as I have since learned, any time you admit to even a drop of alcohol, you have given the police probable cause to arrest you and almost no cop is going to pass up the opportunity to improve crime stats. As my brother told me, lying to a cop is not a crime, driving with alcohol in your system is.

On The Real Cost of Drinking and Driving (Besides, Like, Vehicular Manslaughter)

So I definitely DID NOT blow a .08, I blew a .07 but the cops felt I was "acting" drunk (read: angry I'm being humiliated on the side of the street) and so I ended up with a wet reckless and thousands of dollars of fees. And can we speak to the arbitrary nature of DUI laws? What happened between now and 15 years ago when the limit was .1 in many states rather than the need to collect more revenue?

On Why I Won't Talk

Yes! This! I have spent more time over the years randomly Google Image searching Balk than I'd care to admit. I like to imagine he will be the white, pasty guy of my dreams to sweep me away with his indelicate prose...and...uh, blog write ups.

On Obituaries: "True Blood" Season 3 Finale Killed by Alan Ball Disease

I watched all of Six Feet Under last fall over the course of two weeks, when I was unemployed. I'm wondering if "Alan Ball syndrome" is less noticeable when the time frame is shortened in such a manner, as I later read critiques of the show and couldn't disagree more with the complaints about the plot lines. As a whole, the show felt very balanced, and I wonder if Ball views his series as a contiguous whole, and when watched in weekly installments over the course of several years, the stories are less digestible.

I say this also as someone who was incredulous that the person who was behind Six Feet Under was the same person who came up with the storylines that played out on last night's True Blood Finale. It was not good. Then again, perhaps I would have been equally disgusted with SFU after the Michael C. Hall gets kidnapped episode if it weren't immediately followed by stories that seemed more credible.

On No One Wants To Pay For Music

That Obama retort is brilliant! I must remember to use it in some ridiculously inappropriate manner.

On How Hard Is It To Get 90 Days In Jail for Messing Up Your DUI Sentence? Hard!

Totall agreed. I weigh just under 130 lbs and those three drinks were over the course of over 4 hours and dinner. Also, my BAC was .07 but the officers felt I was "clearly intoxicated" because I was arguing with them and, okay, being kind of an asshole. But what I learned was that its really not worth it to drive with any measurable amount of alcohol in your system. Maybe 99% of the time you'll be fine, but that 1% can cost you a shit load of money and create all kinds of legal and personal headaches.

On How Hard Is It To Get 90 Days In Jail for Messing Up Your DUI Sentence? Hard!

This story makes no sense to me. I had a DUI in LA *AFTER" Lindsay's in '07 and have since finished my classes, paid my fines, completed probation and got it expunged from my record. How the hell is Lindsay still in court over this? Obviously she didn't think she had to be compliant and now she gets to go to jail. It should not take THREE YEARS to go to 20 classes.

Even if she only spends a few days in jail, I can't begin to fathom doing it. 16 hrs in the drunk tank was all the "scared straight" I needed. That was easily one of the top 3 worst experiences of my life. I can't imagine having to do that for 25 days, or whatever it is they say she will actually serve. I mean, even the drinking water was nasty and the food was inedible. also, the toilets are just right in the middle of everything. I can't even think about the experience without feeling anxious/nauseous. Also the reason why I won't drive anymore even after one drink. I'd had three the night I was arrested, felt fine, and it cost me almost $10K. I've never taken a cab that cost that much.
