The Last Two Veterans Of WWI

1.

There are two veterans of the First World War left in the world. Of all the parts of the world that move on without you, of all the borders beyond the horizon, of all the varying speeds and trajectories and characters and stories colluding together in giant waves of "now," "yet-to-come," "once was," and then it boils down to two. It’s not even the whole hand.

Military Finally Acknowledges Own Vet Policy Due To Suing

All those vets who were denied disability payments for a PTSD diagnosis between 2002 and 2008? They are now allowed, at last, to join a class action suit, which also entitles them to an expedited review of their disability claims. (Many of the 4300 veterans diagnosed with PTSD in that window weren't "rated" properly-the rating is what allows you to qualify as disabled, and therefore receive benefits-even as the government's own directives said that a diagnosis of PTSD must automatically rate people well beyond the threshold to qualify as disabled.) The Awl: Where do you live, work?

Sarah: I'm currently unemployed since returning from my tour in Afghanistan. I'm planning on starting school next semester. I live in Madison, WI.

The Awl: How would you sum up your reasons for supporting the bill?

Sarah: From what I've read [...]

Why Does Garfield Hate The Troops?

The whole world has gone crazy, right? It's not just me?

Thursday's strip showed a spider warning the comic's featured cat, the lazy and overweight Garfield, that if the feline "squishes" him, an annual day of remembrance will be held in his honor.

Garfield, who frequently crushes spiders in the series, apparently is undeterred and the strip closes with a classroom of spiders being asked why they celebrate "National Stupid Day."
