The Tribeca Film Festival starts today, and at its helm this year is Frédéric Boyer, who is something of an accidental artistic director. All the Parisian ever wanted to do was watch films. He even skipped his schoolboy exams to screen a flick. That obsession—viewing five, six, seven movies a day—led to a job at Videosphere, the Paris store with over 60,000 titles, which in turn resulted in a gig programming the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes. 'L.A. Noire': Interactive's Big Night

The other night I attended the premiere of a video game. It was an odd little duck—the premiere, that is. The video game is L.A. Noire, an interactive thriller from Rockstar Games (coming out in May), and it was not odd at all. But the premiere was a bit of a puzzle.

Where does your interest in film come from?

That's an interesting question. When I was younger I was very interested in women in the arts, and especially film but I only knew a handful of the obvious names. Y'know Dorothy Arzner, but I felt very strongly that films should not be lost. The original films, they must be kept to speak for themselves. When you have nothing but other people interpreting what the films were really like you're in trouble.

'The Loving Story': The First Couple Of Marriage Rights

The clear, steady gaze of Mildred Jeter Loving looks right at you from the photographs. Then there’s the shy, smitten glance of her husband Richard at the skinny woman he called “Bean.” In never-before-seen archival footage, their daughter, Peggy, faces down the camera as her mother pulls knee socks onto her legs, her brothers playing in the background. And that, with that distinction comes a frenetic array of cultural, religious and political associations that may as well serve as a Rorschach test for anyone watching it? Class Fictions, Reality Poetics And Zany Sex At Tribeca
