The Weird, Frictionless Politics Of 'Parks And Recreation'

There are a lot of different ways to say that NBC’s "Parks and Recreation" is a very upbeat show. Willa Paskin classified the show as a “comedy of niceness.” Showrunner Michael Schur points out that everyone on the show is passionate about something. James Poniewozik talks about how the show is sincere where others are ironic. And at Splitsider, AJ Aronstein focused on the show’s optimistic view of politics. But here’s another way to say it: the show is twee.

"Parks and Recreation": Kinda meh, right?

It's probably way too early to say anything about "Parks and Recreation" other than it seemed okay, has potential, etc. I mean, I don't know where it goes three seasons from now, but I guess we don't live in a world where that matters anymore. Either way, creator Greg Daniels' next show should be a documentary-style sitcom about a crew of documentary filmmakers who are making a documentary about some kind of quotidian workplace environment.

Parks and Recreation May Fall Down, Go Boom

Variety hates Amy Poehler NBC comedy advertainment vehicle "Parks and Recreation." Therefore I will love it. For three episodes. Then I will blog about how I hate it. Then it will pile up on my DVR and I will watch five episodes back to back and love it again. But by then it will be canceled. I'm so sorry Amy Poehler!
