Refried Bean Swastika-Painting Aliens with Mops and Shears are Trespassing in Your Lawns and Kitchens
"An employer shall not intentionally employ an unauthorized alien," nor shall anyone ever let one in his car, or it's curtains for you in the great state of Arizona. This is GREAT NEWS for job creation, as the hundreds of thousands of jobs performed by "aliens" shall now be performed by AMERICAN CITIZENS. Hooray! This will happen because the non-citizens can't go anywhere now: it's trespassing for a non-citizen to be on any "public or private" lands. (Trespassing to paint REFRIED BEAN SWASTIKAS on government offices!) This really puts a lot of fine Fox News-watching people in a tricky place when [...]
Just about everyone has written a Richard Florida takedown, to which I say, the more the merrier. This latest entrant, by Alec MacGillis, takes a long look at Catalytix, which is "A Richard Florida Creativity Group Company," one that extols the virtues of and implements the Creative Class® philosophy that he espouses. This is a great racket.
War-mongering health-care privatization advocate Niall Ferguson is the sort of person who gets to take to the pages of Newsweek to declare himself appalled that people use the Internet for bad things! "The clash of civilizations would have been easy for the West to win if it had simply pitted the ideas and institutions of the 21st century against those of the seventh. No such luck. In the new mash of civilizations, our most dangerous foes are the Islamists who understand how to post fatwas on Facebook, email the holy Quran, and tweet the call to jihad."
This is the second most-mockable thing I've read in the last [...]
Do you know how much federal funding ACORN gets? On average, $3.1 million a year. Over 15 years, that's like the kind of pork money our fine government spent on that stupid volcano monitoring program! It's also half as much as the money ACORN helped poor Americans save in 2006 by helping them do their taxes correctly, according to their 2006 annual report. So really they are taking from the government. That's something conservatives can get behind right? Paying less in taxes? No? Confused? Yes? Anyone?
"Why is Haiti so poor? Well, it has a history of oppression, slavery and colonialism. But so does Barbados, and Barbados is doing pretty well." That's David Brooks, going out on a crazy limb. (He goes out on some others, which we're not even going to address. This one is maddening enough.) For starters. Barbados has a population well under 300,000, and Haiti has a population of over 10 million? Haiti is almost 11,000 square miles and Barbados is 167? This is a question of manageability. More importantly, Barbados has been stunningly smart in occupying the middle ground between neighboring tax haven islands and the highly-regulated (and/or more [...]
