The Cleanup of the New Orleans Police Department Continues
In the case of the Danziger bridge shootings in New Orleans, after Katrina, five police officers have been convicted of an impressive array of charges, ranging from conspiracy to obstruct justice to false prosecution to planting a firearm to falsifying victim statements to fabrication of witnesses to "deprivation of civil rights by shooting." One of the victims was developmentally disabled and was shot in the back... seven times. The police officers were not, however, convicted of murder.
Former Hero Kanye Now An Abused, Apologetic Kanye
I feel bad about my Kanye. (Or, as George Bush calls him, at first, "Kanway.") Oh buddy, why'd you have to apologize for something awesome? Anyway, Kanye seems to be suggesting... something about his Bush-apologetic interview with Matt Lauer? His Twitter stream of consciousness doesn't however indicate anything other than he doesn't know so much about giving an interview.
Like, if Matt Lauer is hassling you? Stop the interview. Come on, YOU HAVE HANDLERS.
Plus, you know, it's video: they can't put words in your mouth. (Unless it's CGI.) Kanye's rambling included unclear meandering bits like this.
HE TRIED TO FORCE MY ANSWERS. IT WAS VERY BRUTAL AND I CAME THERE WITH ONLY POSITIVE INTENT.
Ah well. Let's relive 2005's most magical moment.

Did You Read It? Or Are You Selfish?
Honesty time, for the public good, please. How many of you, with the best of well-caffeinated post-brunch intentions, began on the Kaiser Foundation's 13,000 word Hurricane Katrina story on the cover of the Times magazine yesterday? And then how many of you finished it? I ask because sometimes things that look like they should be very good for you, like some horrible foreign vitamin-less all-fiber vegetable, just aren't. (And sometimes they are!) As of Monday morning, the piece sure isn't on their most-emailed list. Or their most-blogged list. But even though the magazine is still sitting by the couch, taunting me, only you can tell me if it should be on my clip-and-save list. Because I was, like, busy.
Obama's Not Going To Like This New Orleans Story Much Either
It's not on front pages in New York City-here we get a story about how Chuck Schumer has stuffed Kirsten Gillibrand under his big meaty turkey wings, and why wouldn't he?-but in the National edition of the New York Times, there's a front-page headline that stopped me in my morning routine. "Ready or Not, Katrina Victims Are Losing Temporary Housing." Here, maybe you should try a little bit of this instead of coffee. READ MORE
