Budapest had never been my favorite European capital, but a job in a foreign city is always better than a job wherever I happen to be living at the moment. This is why, on a balmy Southern California morning in February of 1996, I voluntarily carried my only possessions to Los Angeles International Airport's Tom Bradley terminal the customary three hours prior to departure. Hungary's incoming prime minister, Viktor Orban, went on a little victory lap and ended up in Ord, where a third of the population is Roma. (Orban, as you well know, is the Fidesz guy; the formerly youth-driven fairy-liberal democrat party swung the other way some time ago, and the conservative group has 263 of the 386 seats in the new parliament. Also, the Jobbik party, which can safely be described as "nationalist," now has 47.) So what's the problem in Hungary? Mostly GYPSY CRIME.

The House of Terror opened in 2002. Since then, it's become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Budapest. It’s a museum, and it presents the last sixty years of Hungarian history through a mix of exhibits and multimedia displays.
