Local Arkansas Man's Ice Cream Truck Sells Pickle Snow Cones

Today's small-town newspaper of the day is the Washington County Observer, hailing from two hours east of Tulsa, serving the greater Greenland, Arkansas area. Spring has arrived, and so has the West Fork ice cream truck man, who hopes that "this is the year his small business will turn a profit." This is a terrific story about a guy who had a crappy job who found a busted old truck, fixed it up and starting making his own snow cones and lemonade. And pickle snow cones! Which apparently kids love! American hero! Also, in the (very funny) weekly video from the publisher above, he discusses web metrics, and promises that he will not kiss a pig or a donkey if they get to 1000 Facebook fans. (He is not concerned about the Foursquare.) In his spectacular Betty Boop tie! Also did you know that only five students from Arkansas got into Yale this year?

Arkansas Even More Hellish Than Usual

First it was the birds, and then... "Officials are investigating what may have killed some 100,000 fish in the Arkansas River in the northwestern section of the state, authorities said on Sunday." If you're in Arkansas right now you might want to consider getting the hell out. I think next up is frogs.

Some People In Some States Voted Yesterday

There was politics last night! In Pennsylvania, party-switching career politician Arlen Specter saw his career end in a Democratic primary loss to Rep. Joe Sestak, marking the first time Pennsylvania Democrats were able to beat Specter statewide. In Kentucky, Rand "Son of Ron" Paul beat the establishment candidate in the Republican Senate primary, proving that the Tea Party movement "is huge," and not too crazy for Kentucky Republicans. In Arkansas, incumbent Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln was forced into a run-off with Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in what an Arkansas paper adorably thinks is "one of the most closely watched Senate races in the nation." It was, everybody agrees, a bad night for incumbents and a sign that America is fed up with blah blah blah etc. (Of course Dems in Pennsylvania were able to hold on to the late Jack Murtha's seat, a feat which Politico suggests "casts serious doubt on the idea that the Democratic House majority is in jeopardy and offers comfort to a Democratic Party that is desperately in search of a glimmer of hope," but that messes with the narrative, so let's not go too crazy.) Anyway, it all means something, and will continue to do so until the next thing happens, at which point it might mean something else. Politics!

Shocking Report Of Excessive Force By Arkansas Police

This cat is lucky he doesn't live in Ozark, Arkansas. According to CBS News, police officers there recently tasered a ten-year-old girl. Oh, what's this? "Ozark police were called to the home Nov. 11 after the girl's mother couldn't get the child to take a shower." I guess that makes sense then.
