The World Is Going Down The Rabbit Hole  @9:35 AM

"Then lobster, a slash of red and white claw meat in a lobster bordelaise so deeply flavored as to recall both veal stock and opium smoke, with cabbage to bind them together. And sturgeon, a rectangle of meat the color of ivory, with a sauce of reduced grape must and a grape-pumpkin marmalade. It’s a mad hatter’s dish, cooking out of Lewis Carroll."
—Alice In Wonderland is everywhere these days: movies, hip-hop, politics, and now restaurant reviews—Sam Sifton gives Colicchio & Sons three stars in today's Times. I'd complain about oversaturation. But that would be Petty. 13

Flicked Off: 'Alice in Wonderland' and Some Patriarchal Norms and Stuff  @2:10 PM

Now I'm not a huge Tim Burton stan, but I thought that Alice In Wonderland was pretty good! The strengths were exactly what you would probably think them to be: visually it was very nice to look at—the landscape design was done by Robert Stromberg, the same guy who did Avatar's. The characters were all very charming and amiable with all of their British accents (and what not!), especially the lead girl Mia Wasikowska who was very crushable by the end. And while the plot/story seemed simple, I was okay with that because it's supposed to be palatable for children, but also because it was really positive and uplifting and supportive of young girls being confident in themselves and believing that they can do things that they set their minds to—which seems like a good thing to convey to today's youth. Considering these takeaways I had from the movie, you can imagine my surprise when I went on Rotten Tomatoes and saw that the movie had a composite review of 67% (coincidentally the same as Shutter Island, which I also thought was a really enjoyable movie—less of an emphasis on girl power, sure, but still fun to watch nonetheless) which seemed a little unfair. 'Alice In Wonderland' Trailer  @4:00 PM

You've seen the static images, now enjoy the pictures in motion! Yes, it's the preview for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and you know what? It looks pretty cool. It'd probably work better with "Wake Up!" as the background music, but you can't have everything. 7

Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland"  @1:05 PM

I was flipping around the TV last weekend and came upon Tim Burton's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, which I had never seen before. Apart from an unfortunate, tacked-on backstory, it was pretty goddamn great, and it got me to thinking that Johnny Depp may be the most underrated actor to have achieved star status in his generation. I mean, can you think of anyone else with Depp's box office success and marquee name who takes so many chances and so clearly delights in just being weird when the role calls for it? You probably can; that's why we have a comments section. But where's his Oscar? Anyway, he and Burton are teaming up again for a new version of Alice In Wonderland. USA Today has the first released images, and, whatever, I thought they were cool. Have a look. 16
