Have we reached consensus on the most important question of the age? Maybe we have! Maybe we have.
The most egregious misuse of the word blog is when people use it to mean "post," and then call comments posts.
A blog is a website with posts, and the posts may or may not have comments. To further clarify these terms, I have just made a comment on your post which appears at The Awl, which is a blog.
@Mark Gisleson@twitter I always imagine that blog/post pedants still say web addresses to their friends like "haitch tee tee pee dot double-u double-u double-u dot whatever dot com" and call it the World Wide Web.
@Mark Gisleson@twitter And that is exactly the error I pointed out. PC World misused the word "blog" to mean "a post on a blog." As I told Anna, she and I agree completely on this issue. So to summarize, yes, this issue has been resolved to everyone's satisfaction.
@Mark Gisleson@twitter Plus your argument would be more convincing if you included some hyperlinks.
@Mark Gisleson@twitter I still call it The Information Superhighway
@stuffisthings – Waitaminute. Is 'H' pronounced with an actual 'h'? HAVE I BEEN DOING IT RONG MY WHOLE LIFE?
@glasstwizzlestix British spelling. I dunno how you'd spell the American way of saying "H." I guess 'aich?
I just wish I could read more articles about how the way we refer to brand new technologies should never, ever change on my car phone or PDA.
@stuffisthings My father calls his iPhone a Palm Pilot.
Those are some pretty contentious twitters.
@Multiphasic Social media have made us all monsters, you clod.
I used to have a blog. I also used to have a pet rock.
@Pop Socket Tell me about how you monetized your pet rock.
@Multiphasic I'm going to guess "knocked someone on the head and took their wallet"
I struggle with the issue of whether to just Let This Go, so posts on blogs like this post on a blog are encouraging. I don't correct people (uhhhh, ANYMORE) but I will never say it myself. NEVER. (Also I'm glad Owen Thomas was redeemed in the comments – it was clear that he was fighting the good fight in 140 characters.) Now can we do something about the passive voice?
The passive voice is enjoyed by me.
@Lindsay Robertson It's just a voice.
My blog is so smart but my blog is worried about by me.
Hey, have you guys heard Lady Gaga's new album Applause?
I have all my wealth invested in vlogs.
A "Flog" brings monetary satisfaction to investor-engorged, horse-like IPOs.
