Convenient that they picked 4000 years. It was warmer 1000 years ago than it was now. Why not mention that? Take a look at the chart below. This is cyclical:

Really, Bart Miller? What part of "global temperatures are warmer than at any time in at least 4,000 years" do you not understand? I know, I know – you're just trolling. Inspecting your comment history, I see you've been doing it for awhile. I do hope you're getting paid. ExxonMobil, Koch Industries, etc. are rolling in money, and there's no reason you shouldn't get some of it, given you're too stupid to understand the science or, more likely, too vicious to care. Note, however, that The Awl is not exactly a hot spot for climate change "debate," so you'll probably get more for trolling elsewhere.
@Ralph Haygood To make the claim that it is "man-made" then you only have about 150 years of data. The industrial age has only been around since the 1800s. Are you trolling?
