Dude, you are not helping.
Does this gem not count because he got caught first?
"60-year-old Cedar Lake resident Von I. Meyer was taken into custody Saturday after he said he planned to burn his wife alive and "kill as many people as he could [at nearby Jane Ball Elementary School] before police could stop him." When officers showed up to arrest Meyer, they discovered 47 guns and $100,000's worth of ammunition in his home."
Time to invest in a gun manufacturing mutual fund.
Does this count as a listicle?
@deepomega 'Tis the season!
I dunno what's happening with my comments but I'm trying to link to this Newswipe clip about the role of saturation media coverage in perpetuating mass killings. As important as gun control and mental health treatment, both of which I am for.
If guns don't kill people, people do – Then what we need to realize is that, unfortunately, there are FAR too many disturbed people out there that simply have much too easy access to acquiring these weapons! It's an unfortunate reality – but that's exactly what it is! It's a reality, it's a fact!
Fighting violence with more violence, is just absurd! Anyone with any decent common sense should be able to see this! The fact is, access to guns should simply be restricted to the armed forces! This kind of thing is happening FAR too often, it's ruining lives, it's creating absolute chaos, due to how easily accessible these weapons are. It's plain and simple!
Maybe America should concentrate on fixing their disgraceful health system, in particular, their mental health system, to stop these kinds of tragedies occurring in the first place, instead of defending the right for any Jo Bloggs to bear arms. It's complete madness! The country is a mess! Anyone with a mental illness and an intention to harm others or themselves can walk into a drug store and purchase a gun. How scary is that!!??
Come on, for God's sake, WAKE UP! Yes people kill people, but the bottom line is, a gun can harm or kill a person much more quickly and easily than any other type of street weapon, and yes, it is unfortunate that we will never be able to COMPLETELY stop criminals from getting access to guns but at least if it is made illegal, it will make it MUCH MUCH harder for these kind disturbed people to gain access to them, ultimately resulting in a significant decrease in these kinds of tragedies.
The madness and horrific tragedy has gone on for too long and something drastic needs to happen to finally put an end to it. Come on guys, giving up your guns is a small price to pay for the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent lives, surely?
Stop hiding behind your excuses and face the facts! You're living in fairy land if you think America's ancient and outdated gun laws don't need to be changed immediately!
There's no need for racism, anger, gluttony or power tripping here. The bottom line is, guns need to go, so people can live!
@Lauren 'Lollie' O'Donnell@facebook : I'm with you for the most part. But as I have said to my friends for years, The day the Gov. can show me that they can stop the illegal flow of DRUGS in to this country, then maybe I’ll believe they can stop illegal guns.
In the mean time, if we are going to ban guns we need to consider some other murderous weapons, like cars. Whether in the hands of a drunk, stoned or sober driver these instruments of destruction, these 4000-pound bullets, kill thousands a day… and most of those are by accident. And that’s not counting the disgruntled wife running over (and back over) her cheating husband, or the occasional whack-job that snaps and drives through a crowded sidewalk café or school crossing zone.
Let us not forget Monica Seles who was stabbed in the back in 1993 ON THE COURT playing Steffi Graf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%BCnter_Parche#1993_stabbing) or more recently, on the same day as Newtown, CT there was an attack in China where 22 children were stabbed. We must start registering these “evil weapons”, any knife over ½”.
Of course, with a little research almost anyone, kid or adult, can mix some common chemicals and snuff out 168 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6, and injure another 680 people. By the way, no firearm of any kind was used in the Oklahoma City blast.
Bottom line; we have been killing each other since the Stone Age. It’s not the gun’s fault. It’s the people that snap. If you can look in to a crystal ball and tell us who is going to kill tomorrow, I will be happy to go over and disarm them myself; guns, knives, axes, blasting caps, baseball bats, etc…, etc… Until then, we need to stop blaming inanimate objects and consider why Switzerland does not have more mass shooting. EVERYONE there is REQUIRED to own an assault rife and be on stand-by for the national army. I wonder what’s different there?
