23 Years Of Simpsons

On this day in 1989, "Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire" became the first episode of that series to be broadcast. Which one are you: Someone who remembers watching the episode when it aired, or someone who doesn't remember a world where "The Simpsons" wasn't on TV?

Someone who was clearly a proto-hipster, being like, "whatever man, I remember the Simpsons were an interstitial cartoon on the Tracey Ullman Show, which I got to watch past my bedtime."

Watched it live rippin' bong loads in college, brah.

No, really.

I seem to remember the Simpsons running in a Sunday night block that included Star Trek (TNG) and 21 Jumpstreet, which I kind of recognized as a terrible show, but damn, that Johnny Depp was hard to look away from. But yup, I am also old enough to remember the Simpsons from Tracy Ullman (not to mention the short that ran before The War of the Roses).

I was three.

I'm just glad no one has said "I'm old enough to remember when the Simpsons was good" yet because I am old enough to hate the shit out of fuckers who say that.

I was five. My Uncle Frank taped it for 'the kids' and showed it to us on Christmas night at another uncle/aunt's house. He's done a lot of horrible things, but introducing me to The Simpsons is probably the one my dad can't forgive him for.

23 years ago? That's the recent past.

I remember the Simpsons very quickly becoming my first show I needed to watch every week.

I loved Life In Hell before the Simpsons. Had a hero Uncle that introduced me in Middle School. Made the connection on the Tracy Ullman show and anticipated the hell out of the premier. My greatest memory, however, is sitting around a friend's apartment and us all getting pissed because they were'nt showing the Simpsons because of Gulf War coverage. Imagine the nerve!
