Will movie directors kill the impact of "Gimme Shelter" through overuse? Sure, why the hell not.
I recently saw Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" used in a motion-picture soundtrack unironically. It shocked me to my very core.
In truth, though, a serious discussion of this issue would be pretty interesting. You could probably include "Ride of the Valkyries" and several other classical pieces as well. "Add It Up," maybe? Various James Brown tracks?
What do you mean will they? I think that horse bolted with 'The Departed'
@LondonLee It was so unnecessary in "The Departed," too! It was already a cliche when Scorcese stuck it in "Goodfellas."
