"Polls" Describe Candidates as "Deadlocked"

It's the post-primary, pre-convention part of the election cycle, where a poll "can find" that Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are in a DEAD HEAT for the presidency of the United States! Flap your hands in a panic, Mittens could be the president! Everyone panic! Just kidding, Romney will lose quite handily, let's just flash-forward 119 days.

typed with the confidence of a man who's got other surefire ways to generate pageviews for the next 119 days.

I remember that swagger of President Kerry's election day like it was yesterday.

If disappointment is on the horizon let it come in 120 days. I've done all I can ($) so I'm going to live the next 119 days with breezy arrogance like re-election is assured.

barnhouse (#1,326)

So true it was the same when people were all "Santorum could be President?!" "Perry could be PRESIDENT?!?!#*@$(&"

I guess I am kind of curious about whether or not he takes Ryan as a running mate. Haha so pathetic Tryin' Ryan is now disavowing Ayn Rand, just in case (she's an atheist it turns out!!) lololol.

Time for Obama to start packing.

melis (#1,854)

Packing 120 days in advance of anything seems awfully premature. What if he packs his toothbrush and then needs it the next morning?

tomme (#4,473)

@ Bart Miller @twitter Or 194 days, give or take, before Mittens would actually be pres.. asdfl khjua.. ha ha .. oh man, I couldn't even type it.

C_Webb (#855)

@melis And then you're falling over boxes for, like, days.

Natzzzzzz (#7,318)

@ Bart Miller @twitter LOL

jfruh (#713)

EVERYONE, DON'T FORGET THAT CHOIRE WAS TRYING TO CONVINCE US THAT JEB WAS GOING TO BE THE GOP NOMINEE! LET'S ALL PANIC AND PANIC HARRRDDDDDD

@jfruh THAT'S NOT OVER YET. I CAN HEAR THE JEB DRUM BEATS FROM HERE.

tomme (#4,473)

@Choire Sicha@facebook I saw Jeb at dinner Saturday evening in K'bunk. The man was two large martinis deep and did not look to be in fighting shape. Then again his father drank the same amount and looked better then Jeb, so who knows…

@tomme OOH. That is an EXCELLENT spying report. Yeah, I think he's hunkering down doing business in Florida for the most part and politics is a terrible business decision for him. (Unlike Cheney.)

*fap, fap, fap

oh…you said flap. dammit!!

dntsqzthchrmn (#2,893)

If it's Mittens/Rubio, does that force a BHO/HRC ticket? Hahaha just kidding that would not be doing as little as possible on BHO's part and therefore no.

jfruh (#713)

@dntsqzthchrmn you'll pry joe biden from my cold dead hands

dntsqzthchrmn (#2,893)

@jfruh Joe Biden, Zombie Hunter

Vulpes (#946)

I don't like the hubris of "Oh, Romney won't win!" because TEMPTING FATE, but I also do think freaking out over a poll in the middle of summer, especially one in which most people are too busy trying not to die of heatstroke to give a crap about politics, is a little much.

atipofthehat (#797)

@Vulpes

A lot depends on the running mate, and a lot more on the vote-suppression laws timed perfectly for the election.

riotnrrd (#840)

@atipofthehat This. Pennsylvania will probably go to Romney now because of the voter suppression laws which have eliminated nearly 10% of qualified voters from the rolls. Coincidentally, they're mostly lower income and city-dwellers.

@Vulpes It's okay. If our hubris tempts fate so much that Obama loses then we know exactly what to do for every subsequent election. It's a big loss, I know, but discovering that the words and feelings of the Awl commentariat determine the course of America's electoral process will be well-worth it. Victory or Victory!

deepomega (#1,720)

Yeah, but THIS poll is the most accurate reflection of the True Poll, the Platonic ideal of polling which exists outside of time and space. Gonna WAVE MY ARMS OVER MY HEAD!

Natzzzzzz (#7,318)

I use Nate Silver's reliable Five Thirty Eight blog for all my presidential prediction needs (it was pretty accurate almost down to the electoral votes in 2008). Here, it's not even close. So there's that. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/

@Natzzzzzz Why be sensible when you can go nuts?

stuffisthings (#1,352)

@My Number Is My Address Wait, that's either my personal motto, or the tagline of a new Snickers campaign.

@stuffisthings Either way I just made $2.39!
