New Military Robots Specially Designed To Give You Nightmares

"Three of the U.S. military's newest recruits reported for duty this week at the Army Test and Evaluation Command. These troops are different from normal soldiers in several ways—for starters, each has six feet. And they are robots designed to look and move like cockroaches."
Sometimes it seems like DARPA and Boston Robotics are just fucking with us, doesn't it? They've made a flea robot, too. I can't wait for the bedbug one.

I'm in favor of anything that violently kills Gene Simmons.

@Bus Driver Stu Benedict The fact that the operating principle behind its movement seems to be to flail in a forward direction makes it kind of adorable.

You mean that's not WALL-E?

Rhex is a very good robot – one of the first to incorporate actual biomechanical principles instead of what engineers thought the biomechanics were.

It just happens that the cockroach was the model system for the original research.

I tried to make a UAV based on the flight dynamics of the male honeybee, but all I managed to come up with was a drone. Although I did kill Al Qaeda's #2 with it, but that was probably more of an allergy thing. Because I also beat him about the head with an inhaler.

@SidAndFinancy: I would certainly charge $1.99 to my credit card in order to On-Demand this PG-rated comedy film starring Patton Oswalt and Aziz Ansari, with a cameo appearance by Danny McBride as Lt. Col. (Ret.) Kenny Powers. My idea is you get a couple of Parks and Rec writers to script. Isn't Odenkirk looking for something to direct?

You can take back-end points for the idea or else a story credit, but not both.
