Paul Benjamin Auster, a Brooklyn novelist long before that term inspired yawns and derision, turns 65 today. I'm partial to Moon Palace, but The New York Trilogy is also pretty great.

The first half of The Invention of Solitude is also unfuckwithable.
The thing about Moon Palace is, that restaurant was terrible.
@dntsqzthchrmn But the Luna song is great!
@Krugmanic Depressive Hah, it was a Luna song to me before it was a Paul Auster book.
For the longest time I thought he was actually a British novelist, what with the way the British never shut up about him.
'Moon Palace' for me too. Haven't read anything new of his for years though, after a while I got a bit tired of the ripping yarns and minimal style.
The Trilogy is pretty great. Married to a novelist who is terrific too, Siri Hustvedt.
