'Frances' is a Pack of Lies

So what's the problem with "creative nonfiction"? Ah right: it turns biography into lies. Which is a shame, when the truth is so much more interesting! So here's the strange truth about Frances Farmer.

I wish the Awl had a sister site dedicated to silent and early talky stars. Frances Farmer, Roscoe Arbuckle, Louise Brooks and Lillian Gish are infinitely more interesting than whoever's driving hollywood's current clown car.
