This Is The Way The Week Ends

Some things happened this week. These are the ones we can remember: We praised the skills of director Tom Scharpling, spent some time in police custody, read Duff McKagan's autobiography, visited with heroic dogs, examined a contentious trademark fight and explained what a Cheryl Cole is. Somebody died. Oh, yeah, and we launched a new website. It was actually a pretty busy week, all told. AND NOW IT'S OVER. Thank the Lord.

My first day on the scene. Transcript of my text messages of the day follows (random friends all listed as "friend"):

ME: Report from the front. Attending Wall St protest today. Best sign so far: "You don't get ahead by giving head … to THE MAN!"

FRIEND: I wish someone had mentioned that before I saw THE MAN

ME: These folks aren't completely against capitalism. They are selling djembe drums

FRIEND: Are you sipping champagne right now, looking over the people? Check email

ME: Hanging out with the Granny Peace Brigade now

FRIEND: I think Wall St will be less occupied when the weather turns

ME: Guy with no arms in drum circle. Def Leopard?

(DRUMMER) FRIEND: He has one arm

ME: I am sipping the blood of my oppressors from their cold bankrupt magot-infested skulls. And also a nice vintage 1974 Moet, now that you ask

ME: "We the People are pissed!"

FRIEND: British interpretation

FRIEND: He wishes he was def leopard

FRIEND: You are a goofball

FRIEND: We have been ripped off. Now we are going to watch the victims tear the house down around them. Not good
