More on the NYPD "Brown People-Only" Terror Surveillance
Here we go! The NYPD's secret global terrorism investigation unit is becoming ever less secret, thanks to these reporters. Had a little halal food? Been to an Egyptian cafe? Been to any of the 14 Moroccan restaurants in town? Been pretty much ANYWHERE on Steinway St. in Queens? (Here's the list in handy doc form.) Then congrats, you've been surveilled by the NYPD. Either we're running an amazing intelligence operation or the NYPD is about to take over Time Out New York.
Moroccans? Were they worried about America being overrun with deliciousness?
@MikeBarthel Well, when you know you can get away with fucking with some Arabs, but you also know that Saudis, Palestinians, Syrians, Iraqis, Yemenis, Libyans, Algerians (and now I guess Egyptians and Tunisians) can be dangerous for real, what do you do? Go fuck with the Moroccans! They can't be any more dangerous than the partying hipsters or the cyclists, right? In fact, they probably hang out at the same places, so double the fun!
Honestly, what I found most surprising about this article is that there are only 14 Moroccan restaurants in New York.

@deepomega Right? Even San Jose has two, so by rights you guys should be up to at least 50 so that I can make sense of the world.
I'm vastly more concerned about having this many NYPD officers swarming my neighborhood than I'd ever be about Moroccans. Also I wonder if I am now on a terror watch list for shopping at a C-Town frequented by KNOWN RELIGIOUS MUSLIMS OMG?
This makes me angry in more ways than I care to mention. But it also reminds me of responses that (mostly white, but not only) people give me when I tell them me being an American and me being a person of color are two very closely interrelated identities. I'll always get, but you're a model minority! You can't be a person of color! And things like this remind me that, though born here, it'll always be assumed i'm not of here.

Am I funding terror if I patronize most, if not all, of these places on Steinway? If I am, why did no one tell me that terror provides for the most delicious food? I feel like the John Walker Lindh of halal food.
It's afraid not to taste good.
