Happy Birthday, Leonard Cohen

Mr. Leonard Norman Cohen, an artist out of Montreal, turns 77 today. I suppose that's reason enough to make it through another grim box on the calendar. If I had 139 disposable dollars I would absolutely drop them on this, but I've got all the material anyway and until they start handing out bourbon for free on street corners I need to be responsible with how I spend what I've got. In any event, I am hopeful that the rumored new record comes to fruition, and I am wishing the man many, many, many happy returns on the day.

okay, you guys? I think I might be magic….
Last night, Cohen's "The Future" was playing in my dream and I woke up with it stuck in my head. This despite the fact that I haven't heard the song in yeaaaars. I figured, okay, either he's just died (which, zOMG no!) or something about him will be in the news day. AND LO AND BEHOLD. Now, you're probably non-plussed. But from where I'm sitting, I'm a motherfucking wonder.

You literally retroactively caused Leonard Cohen to be born, good going.

One time I took a boyfriend to have an MRI. They suggested that we bring music, so in the midst of all the terror of his illness, I grabbed a CD as we staggered out the door. This was back in the day, so the MRI machine was SUPER LOUD and the stereo had to be turned way, way up to hear the music over the crushing din. I wasn't even sure what I'd brought until the synth handclaps started, but the album was I'm Your Man and the song was "First We Take Manhattan."

I'd really like to live beside you, baby…

Dude how do you feel about the fact that you and Feld both instinctively chose the same song?
