Today's New York Observer editorial page, as always, does not disappoint, in the form of this editorial in praise of movies and TV filming in New York City.
Some New Yorkers may grumble about the inconveniences that are inevitable when nearly two dozen film crews are on location in popular neighborhoods or near trendy nightspots. Here’s a bit of advice for those iconoclasts: It’s August. Chill out. Take a long weekend in the Hamptons.
DON'T MIND IF I DO?
The residents of Greenpoint will happily drive to the Hamptons and park their cars on Jared Kushner's lawn the next time Girls or Blue Bloods or The Good wife takes up all the neighborhood parking.
@Backslider
Even more fun to imagine: half of Inwood and Washington Heights showing up with their boom boxes, grills and coolers full of Corona because every remaining flavor of LAW & ORDER, as well as some weird movie, has set up base camp along Riverside Drive and over five blocks of Broadway.
@City_Dater Coincidentally, I have taken to circling the block during live film shoots, blasting Reggaton from my Saturn. The directors love it. This is my way of chilling out in August.
The Hamptons? Oh, no. I summer on the west coast of Long Island.
Do they have cake at the Hamptons?
@Niko Bellic Yes, but they only LOOK at the cake. Nobody actually eats cake.
Calories are so declasse'.
@hockeymom After the rich are done looking at the cake, the peasants eat it.
Choire, is this your way of asking for yet another invitation to our place in Southampton?
I don't even notice these "film shoots" from my private helicopter out to the East End. Don't really see what all the fuss is about.
As long as these "films" entertain the proles and keep them pacified, I suppose I can suffer the inconvenience.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm expecting my daily delivery of Thai hookers and Krugerrands.
"I'm not making up any of these stories I'm telling you tonight. Um… except for one. Except for the fact that the Krugerrand sticks to the wall when it hits. That's the only one. Everything else is true."
If you can go to the Hamptons, aren't the odds good that you're involved in the shoot?
@deepomega Chill out. It's summer. Shoot your own blockbuster.
