Did you know that Long Island has a professional hockey team? I didn't either, but the lady here says that they totally do. Although possibly not for much longer. It's a funny old world.
Fun fact: The Islanders were created by the league and Mets founder William Shea to prevent the World Hockey Association from having their New York franchise play at Nassau.
They were so successful, the New York Raiders/Golden Blades had to move from MSG to Cherry Hill, NJ, and then to San Diego.

I love Long Island.1) NY accent and attitude with somewhat cheaper real estate. 2) Where New Yorkers had to move when people from Maryland and Idaho finished their MFA's.

Nassau Coliseaum is a dump, but I have been to some great concerts (and hockey games) there.
@LloydBraun Having seen many a game at Veterans Stadium, Nassau doesn't seem to have enough feral cats or jails for my tastes.
@LloydBraun For a hot minute back in the day it seemed like Twisted Sister was the Coliseum's house band.
