Hey Mac user, I'm sorry to inform you that you've got one less thing to be smug about: "Apple has long boasted of the Mac's immunity to viruses and malware. But the computers, once marketed as more secure than those running on Windows software, are facing an increased threat from criminals because of their popularity. Online security experts have warned that Macs are now a more attractive target for hackers due to the rising number of people who choose them over a PC."

I guess the only thing I have to feel smug about now is the fact that I'm better looking than most of you.

so, John Gruber has a few posts about this issue:

@Barbara Smith@twitter Lol Gruber is like the definition of MacSmug.

I'm a PC, and WHO'S SMUG NOW BIYATCH?!!!

Keith Kisser (#9,714)

@keisertroll Don't get too smug. That's the leading cause of Windows crashes.

This is sad, I used to click on links on FB that were clearly viruses on purpose then laugh and laugh. Reminded me of this:

But if I can't be smug about my Mac, what's left?

I'm not smug about the virus stuff! Just smug about knowing enough not to look to The Daily Mail for tech news.

@TerseNursePornstein

Sorry I need to correct you:

Just smug about knowing enough not to look to The Daily Mail for tech news.

Use Ubuntu and become insufferable

@facepunches : Use phrase "nice Ubuntu namedrop" and become equally insufferable.

@facepunches Use Slackware and get religion.

I'll take my chances, thanks just the same.

I also blog (albeit to a much smaller audience) so I'll just say this as gently as possible: you should have read the comments before posting your link to this specious crap.

Yes, Macs are vulnerable to phishing sites. Not the same thing as a virus.

I'm a huge pirate and download all kinds of crap from seedy places on the net, and I've never infected my Mac with anything. In fact, after 21 years of Mac use and 17 years online, I've only seen a virus once, and that was an infected floppy from a PC user (Word macrovirus). But if I'd been running Windows on my Mac, it could have "got" me.

In addition to having downloaded tens of thousands of internet files, I worked with over 3,000 complete strangers via the internet and never got infected once.

Hate Mac users for being smug, but you make yourself look silly when you link to idiot crap like this.

Congratulations, you actually won this argument. It's finally over. Collect your prize of ALL THE OTHER LINKS TO IDIOT CRAP ON THIS WEBSITE, which are tongue-in-cheek or "get a load of this" if you have a sense of humor.
