Yet Another Chambermaid Is Clearly Tool of Shadowy French Conspiracy

In what the New York Times described as "tawdry allegations," the head of the International Monetary Fund and the possible next president of France was yanked out of first class on an Air France flight at JFK on charges that he'd raped a maid at the Sofitel in New York City.

Like most rapes, this is clearly an elaborate plot by the French Central Directorate of Interior Intelligence, the French President and possibly the CIA and/or Carla Bruni. "He must have been trapped," said the head of France's Christian Democratic Party. "He is a well-known seducer but does not have the profile of a rapist," said his official biographer. Others asked why a chambermaid was cleaning hotel rooms. Very suspicious! So there you have it.

This is the first success for a long-running attempt to entrap the IMF head, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Previous attempts include a woman who claimed that he attempted to rape her and another woman who said he held her against her will.

Already some papers are trying to name the chambermaid so that we can discover what intelligence agency pays her. Elsewhere, a few papers have noted that there is also a small chance that Strauss-Kahn is actually a predatory rapist.

Many more progressive European countries, such as France, are baffled by they consider to be America's Victorian attitude towards violent sexual assault by its political leaders.

Debussy Fields (#9,962)

1. Typo alert- end of graph 3: "…against his will." Probably should be "her will."
2. This whole episode is eerily similar to what happened to Sam Cooke.

MParcells (#375)

@Debussy Fields It's true, Sam Cooke would be President today, if only he hadn't (allegedly) assaulted that woman.

@Debussy Fields Oh, sorry, blinded by rage!

hockeymom (#143)

Le Derriere Chapeau

Sunny Schomaker (#4,021)

@hockeymom More accurately, le chapeau de cul.

jolie (#16)

She should have known better than to wander into a stranger's room, all tarted up in a maid's outfit.

C_Webb (#855)

He was probably just helping the maid play out her French Rapist fantasy.

zidaane (#373)

@jolie She may have missed the "Do Not Resist Nude French Guy" sign on the door.

TheRtHonPM (#10,481)

I bet you $100, his defense will argue that he was expecting a hooker when the maid walked in.

kryz (#311)

This picture is inappropriately (?) funny, somehow.

scrooge (#2,697)

(1) Allegedly, a member of the LePen party twittered this before DSK was arrested.
(2) The AP report said DSK forced her to give him oral. Not very credible. Even less so if the maid is found to have intact incisors.
(3) Why would someone in his position do this? He would almost inevitably be caught. We know all men are dogs, but even a dog, if it were head of the IMF and running for President, would be smart enough not to do this.

@TheRtHonPM — good bet.

C_Webb (#855)

Keeping in mind the major distinction between debauchery and sexual assault, if the criteria is getting caught, we could make a list of "dumb" dogs that includes Bill Clinton, Elliot Spitzer, Jon Edwards …

scrooge (#2,697)

@C_Webb None of these were guilty of rape. If you're forcing someone, you pretty much know it will come out, as it were.

TrilbyLane (#1,318)

@scrooge May I join you in this strange, happy world where forced oral sex can't happen, and potential rapists hold themselves back for the sake of their careers??

scrooge (#2,697)

@TrilbyLane By all means!. Welcome to the world of sane inquiry.

stuffisthings (#1,352)

@scrooge (1) According to (I think) Liberation blogger, the UMP (Sarkozy's party, NOT Le Pen's) activist got the time difference wrong. (2) Yes, it's odd that they even have a law against forcible sodomy, since it is physically impossible and never happens. (3) Again, yes, it is completely unheard of for a wealthy or powerful person, especially one with a reputation for being sexually aggressive, would ever force himself on an underling.

Then again, the NYPD are notorious for taking rape claims extremely seriously and investigating to them fullest extent possible, so it's probably just another typical overzealous rape prosecution.

Also, don't forget (4): The French blogs are reporting rumors that she's 'unattractive.' I mean she's probably no Piroska Nagy, so.

scrooge (#2,697)

@stuffisthings I'm not saying you're wrong. I just think it's a little premature to assume the man is guilty. Don't you?

cherrispryte (#444)

@scrooge Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you….. Rape Culture! Ta da!

MollyculeTheory (#4,519)

@scrooge So you're trapped in a room with a person who outranks you in both social and physical power, but who cares? Bite that dick off, lady!

scrooge (#2,697)

Just heard there's a casting call for Henry Fonda's role in a remake of 12 Angry Men. I must leave you now.

stuffisthings (#1,352)

@scrooge It's always premature to assume someone is guilty before they've been convicted. I just think it's a little premature to say he's been set up.

TrilbyLane (#1,318)

@scrooge I don't dispute that he might not have done it, just some of the particular reasons you give for your doubts. Very important powerful people do appalling things quite often. They might even be more likely than other people to have issues about importance and power! And forced oral sex is a thing that happens to people.

Mindpowered (#948)

@stuffisthings Indeed. welcome to the culture of of pre-trial smear. Innocent until proven guilty unless you've hit one of our cultural nerves, then you can rot in media frenzy/ internet judgement hell.

I find it extremely likely that he had ordered an escort (who would have been briefed as to what to expect), and the chambermaid happened to be in wrong place at the wrong time. Undoubtedly realizing he dun fucked up big time, DSK fled. He was probably as shocked as she was.

deepomega (#1,720)

@Mindpowered: I'm not sure how the situation you've described isn't rape.

Mindpowered (#948)

@deepomega

It's just my feeling as to why he acted the way he did. Pure mistaken identity. The trial should prove extremely illuminating.

(Caveat: explanation does not let him off the hook, he should have stopped immediately, a chambermaid is not an escort, etc….)

El Matardillo (#586)

This is eerily like the time Janet Snakehole, a young widow with a terrible secret, did her darnedest to entrap Choire Sicha with a mesmerizing dance of Grand Marnier.

Abe Sauer (#148)

Isn't the biggest outrage here that the Post has already convicted the maid of being an asshole by, you know, calling this sodomy.

But…but…his poll numbers were soooooooooo good! Considerably better than Obama in '07. Imagine if Obama had been arrested for rape in Japan or, better yet, someplace where rape is illegal like England, in 2007 or early '08. You would have to be pretty steely to NOT be looking for some other explanation. That's the situation the French Left is in and it's perfectly understandable. The fact that their Obama was already known to be a millionaire sex-pest is a whole other issue.

stuffisthings (#1,352)

@My Number Is My Address If I recall correctly wasn't it something like DSK 40% favorable, Le Pen 31%, Sarkozy 22%? (And yeah it doesn't help that the French see a conspiracy when their mail is delivered five minutes late).

@stuffisthings More or less, for the first round, and 60 to Sarko's 40 or 77 to le Pen's 23 in the all-important second round.

barnhouse (#1,326)

Carole Bouquet just called this "political suicide" on French TV, and explained that he must not have really wanted to be Président de la République, so that's settled.

Debussy Fields (#9,962)

Putting Carole Bouquet on television does not help reduce rape.
