"A man on a flight from Paris to Atlanta has been charged in federal court with sexually assaulting a passenger and then karate chopping a federal sky Marshall who came to detain him."
There are direct flights from Paris to Atlanta??? Who knew? What's next, Kuala Lumpur to Sacramento?

1984: Miami (??) to Budapest: Stranger than Paradise

How very lucky for you that you never had to pay for a trip from Boston to Paris with Delta SkyMiles. Nothing beats getting on a 1pm flight to Atlanta knowing that your zombified corpse will be getting off a plane in Paris sixteen hours later.

The first time I ever flew to continental Europe was via an accidental first class upgrade (flight was oversold) on Air France from Atlanta to Paris.

The moral of the story? Don't malign Sacramento by comparing it to Atlanta.

How odd that the busiest airport in the world would have direct flights to anywhere.

Oh sure, what you say is LOGICALLY true. However, think a moment. ATLANTA. I thought we had carried out the Democrat's plan to turn the south into a sort of prison colony.

Think of what it did for Australia.

Haha, I GUESS this makes sense! I mean, Atlanta isn't really any further from Paris than Miami or DC! And it is of course yes, a real city. I think this is a consequence of being old. We didn't have those direct flights like that back when you could smoke on planes!

How odd that the largest airline in the world would have direct flights to the busiest airport in the world.

Forget Atlanta, who knew saythatscool knew karate?

SidAndFinancy (#4,328)

Yeah, this guy sounded creepy until I got to the karate chop, which kinda won me over.

deepomega (#1,720)

Why doesn't the article tell us how many body parts the sky marshall exploded into?

HereKitty (#2,713)

I will see your Paris to Atlanta and raise you a Charlotte to London. My Northeast Corridor mind reels.

SeanP (#4,058)

Charlotte is also quite a large city.

I've been on the (Delta) flight from Atlanta to Paris. Flew 1st class even, although it probably would have been a better flight in coach since the bitch in the window seat had to keep getting up and down, even when everybody else was sleeping. My first trip out of the country, by myself, to freaking Paris, trying to catch a train to Switzerland, jetlagged to start with, and then having a shitty flight on top. I barely managed to make the last train to Basel, freaking my wife out who was expecting me there much earlier than that. I had picked up some German, but hadn't even learned enough French to do me shit, and hell, just about everyone in Switzerland spoke English!

checkonetwo (#3,234)

YOU WERE STILL IN FIRST CLASS. In coach, anyone over 5'3 flies with their knees hitting the seat in front of them and there are invariably babies on the flight SO NO, I DON'T FEEL BAD FOR YOU.

petejayhawk (#1,249)

You want a good sob story? Tell me that you're a Swiss guy flying FROM Paris TO Atlanta for the first time, and you almost missed the last Amtrak to, uh, I don't know…Tampa? Now THAT would be a scary experience.

melis (#1,854)

Oh man, the moral of all of these stories is that you flew. Through the SKY. To WHEREVER YOU WANTED TO GO.

deepomega (#1,720)

Phoenix to Buenos Aires!

HonoriaGlossop (#1,247)

Philadelphia to Oslo, last year. WTF?

jfruh (#713)

Detroit to Tokyo, anyone? That made no sense to me until someone pointed out the whole auto industry connection.

theheckle (#621)

Also, if I recall correctly, Northwest (Detroit hub) used to be called Northwest Orient. For it's whole focus on Asia. My mother always called it Northwest Disorient.

hman (#53)

The underwear bomber's Amsterdam–Detroit flight really had me puzzled.

petejayhawk (#1,249)

There are a lot of people who read The Awl who have apparently never flown anywhere in the country other than New York (or, uh, Baltimore if you're jfruh, I suppose). Other cities have international airports too! Hubs, even! It's crazy! Even people not on the east coast occasionally have to travel!

I find that direct flights from New York to Boston are preferable to the ones with stopovers in Pittsburgh and Albany. Good for Expedia though, for letting me know the options.

Portland=>Frankfurt (Adidas)
LAX=>Istanbul (Iranian diaspora headed to Tehran)
Anchorage->Frankfurt (German tourists wanting to see Alaska)

The world is a complicated place.
