I was looking forward to learning about Why Roger Ailes Hates America as per the title of this Esquire profile but unfortunately the answer was not forthcoming, or perhaps a few thousand words of bizarre overwrought writerly tics prevented me from finding out.

There were quite a few interesting stories and character moments in the article, but yeah, the cable news parody voice overstayed its welcome. It got to be a chore to keep reading by the last couple of sections.
Jeez Louise. That article weighs almost as much as he does, and runs maybe half as fast.
agreed. I tried to read this, but couldn't get past the first page. such bad (and high profile) writing!
You say overwrought like it's a bad thing. Where would the internet be without overwrought? WHERE, I ASK YOU?!! And then I answer, because that's what you do with rhetorical setups about overwrought writing.
In a staid and boring land free of overwrought exclamation and exaggeration, we'd have no crosshairs, no lists of people ruining America, no hysterical headlines about Armageddon and bedbugs.
To wit, the base material available to the Awl for mocking would drop by at least 85%.
Anyway! Popcorn for everyone! Amirite?
