Gay Nerds to Embark on Harry Potter "Wizards at Sea" Cruise… to Haiti

Should you want to get on a giant sea vehicle named Freedom of the Seas, with a bunch of shut-ins who've come outside for the first time, awesome news! It's a Harry Potter cruise! From the press release: "Passengers will be immersed in this wizarding world at sea, which will include a Sorting Ceremony, Classes in Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts, Wizards Chess, Horcrux Hunt, Yule Ball, Quidditch Lessons on board taught by Harry, Cedric and the International Quidditch Association, Quidditch Match on land, Team Trivia Contest, Wizards Wheel of Fortune, Charity Auction, Vendors Room and Photo Shoot. Events will only take place while the ship is at sea never during port times." The Facebook page is not to be missed. And ports of call include Labadee, Haiti. The spellbinding horror sets sail in August!

I hope they're boarded by a Society for Creative Anachronisms pirate cruise.

How is this Gay? I mean – I am all for gay-nerd-hot-times, but I would hate to show up for my nude Quiddich lessons and be all disappointed that Cedric won't play Hide the Horux with me.

Be less stupid, Choire Sicha!

Really love The Awl. I'm an avid reader and reposter of its amazing content. Up until now, I'd never been disappointed in The Awl. This post may have been funny had it not tried to be 'funnier' by using a homophobic joke.

No Canucklehead, sadly this is not a gay nerd cruise, just a combination Gay and Nerd bashing, double whammy joke – forgive me for not laughing.

Stupid me, for thinking that a site like this, whose moto is 'Be less Stupid', would be immune from such homophobic rubbish. A shame considering all the public attention that recent suicides in the USA have brought to the issue of homophobia and bullying. Homophobic abuse comes in all shapes and sizes, but with the eyes of the world on our media, it is vitally important that it provide the best examples of acceptance and be beyond reproach.

Homophobia, like Racisim and Sexisim, should not to go unchallenged, no matter how small it may seem at the time.

Choire Sicha: huge homophobe or HUGEST HOMOPHOBE???

@Doctor Disaster.
Thanks, but I'd like to think that Choire is only guilty of stupidity and not the malice associated with most homophobic comments. Unfortunately, it has become popular to use the term gay to refer to things that bad, stupid or in fact, anything one dislikes. I hope that Choire is only guilty of using the term in this way out of the misguided belief that it is okay and not homophobic to do so.
