I like the argument that the only map symbol alternative to crosshairs is a rainbow or unicorn. This has been quite a dilemma for google maps!
The many symbols for bench marks (I assume that's what is meant by "surveyor's marks") do not look like the symbols on her map (examples here in top left corner).
I like that in addition to her many other accomplishments Sarah Palin is now also a pretentious grizzled 1890s prospector who just drops "surveyor's marks" in casual propaganda like obviously everyone will know what those are! And how every falangist douche-bag apologist is now a faux expert in cartography. WHO SAYS THE LEVEL OF DISCOURSE IS TOO LOW? NOT THE USGS!
This is another interesting take on Palin's FB page.
I'm not sure if this post is accurate, but the writer logged the speed with which negative posts were taken down and the odd post that was left visible. If true, the editors of her FB page were very busy this weekend.
Yeah, it was shockingly fast. There has to be somebody tasked with just that job. And as the afternoon wore on, the posts just kept coming and kept getting deleted like some giant game of whack-a-mole.
That post "gasps" in shock over the troll comment about the dead nine year old being hitler, so, good riddance. Those troll comments are common on almost any page that has to do with tragedy. There were many more similar that were clearly just comment trolls looking for a reaction. As anyone who has ever been to an admin-abandoned RIP memorial page for a tragically dead youth knows, there are a lot of commentors who love to post horribly upsetting comments (and pictures) in spaces where users are most vulnerable. Yay Internet.
This might be obvious, and I'm just missing everyone else saying it (or it doesn't need to be said?) but a substantial number of those posts are almost certainly trolls. If there was a map of easy places to troll, Sarah Palin's Facebook Wall would have a very large surveyors mark. [which doesn't make the real comments any less terrifying]
As a Canadian I can probably be considered neither Republican or Democrat – I'm just a non-partisan observer of American politics. Sarah Palin is obviously one of those not-very-bright people who have a knack for knowing how to manipulate others – the only reason she has done as well as she has in the public eye is because of this singular 'talent', and because she has a bevy of intelligent advisors at her disposable. The reason why she hasn't gone further, done better, than she has (despite the numerous opportunities offered her since her initial thrust into the political spotlight)is because she, well, just isn't very smart – and no matter how intelligent the advisors are, you just can't hide a lesser brain once the mouth starts moving.
I think her target-like marks on the map in question could probably be considered 'incite-ful' – don't you think? There are at least a few legal precedents in the American legal history where the law punished those who incited violence or illegal activities, through speech or action – I'm surprised that no one down south has filed a law suit to this end.
After Palin's 'gun/target visuals' with the map, coupled with her repetitive violent wording at public gatherings, it was just a matter of time before a person who had mental problems took Palin's words (and visuals) to heart, and acted on them. I would not be surprised to hear that Loughner was a fan of Palin's violent rhetoric.

A given location is no longer considered safe after it's human population grows higher than one.
@stc: grab your sarong.
And not one of these comments approaches the violent rhetoric that is Sarah Palin's brand.

So how cold is Canada again? Do they have the internet there?
Pretty cold. But yes.
She really brings out the best in people.
This is good. Thanks, Abe.

"Everything that comes out of you is defective." Oh man.
Thar be liberals
Because to oppose her, you have to be a liberal? Is that how it works? You are very mistaken.
