40 Million People Lived Off Unemployment? Everyone Start Hoarding!
"The White House made the case on Thursday that cutting off unemployment benefits would actually result in hundreds of thousands of more unemployed Americans." Ooh, hundreds of thousands? That's all you've got to scare Republicans into extending unemployment? Nice try! I mean, only 40 million people benefitted from unemployment since December 2007. (That's 14 million recipients, plus their households.) Besides, last week 436,000 applied for unemployment. Which is actually not far off from the two-year low! So what's a few hundred thousand more unemployed people?

If you want to encourage behavior, subsidize it. If you want to discourage behavior, tax it. If we taxed people for being unemployed, they would go find jobs, right?
Shhhh, don't give Boehner any ideas.
My unemployment is taxed. And it's so meager I have no desire to stay on it. And yet, here I am. Applying for jobs every day and living on unemployment for the last 9+ months.
The political sea change has yet to happen and I'm already sick of hearing about it.
Why is it that so many people feel that anyone on unemployment is muching off the government> Does someone nedd to remind you that everyone pays in to unemployment while they are working? I mean it's seems that this has slipped everyone's mind. Personally I worked for 22 years, paying in to the states unemployment fund with every paycheck I made. This is the only time I have drawn unemployment, but suddenly because of the national debt and the possability that the BUsh-era tax cuts for the rish are not going to be reinstated I am suppose to feel guilty about drawing unemployment. Or how about the fact that Republican Presidents in the past have extended unemployment benefits as well, Obama is not the first President to ever do this. Or how about the fact that unemployment extensions only cost the government approx. $5 billion. Our government spends more on foreign aid. Or how about the other fact which is currently of 48% or Americans pay any income tax at all? Between 2005 and 2008 I paid over $250,000,00 in income tax. Way more than my fair share. But what pisses me off, isn't that I paid it, it's that the other 52% didn't pay a damn thing. Bascily unemployment or extensions of unemployment follow under the same guidelins as everything else you people bitch about. It's funny actually. You make $60,000.00 or more a year and yet you don't pay any income tax, because you would rather spend your money hiring an accountant to find loop holes or credits so you don't have to pay. Then you try to justify the fact that you don't pay your fair share and then even though you don't pay any income tax at all, you bitch every time the government spends any money unless it's going in your pocket. A bunch of damn hipocrits. The fact is, everyone who lives here in this country draws on the benefits that living here provides. You don't have to worry about some war lord storming in and taking your house and all your personal property and money or shooting your wife and kids. You drive on the roads that taxes built and maintain. You enjoy knowing that the drugs and the food you buy are safe. You enjoy taking a family vacation to Yelowstone. You enjoy knowing that if someone robs you or breaks in to your house that the policce are there. Yet you actually believe that you shouldn't have to pay for it. You bitch because you feel that if you did pay any tax that you should pay the same as the family making $18,000.00 after all the simple fact that you make 500 times that amount why should you have to pay a percentage rate which means you have to pay more then they do because you make more than they do. How about you take a lesson from one of the richest men in America, the founder of Birkshire Hathoway who personal believes that it is because you make more money that you should pay more as you have reaped more benefit from living in this great country. The wealthest 10% of Americans believe that they should pay more not less, yet here we have a group of people who fall in the $60,000.00 to $250,000.00 range who feel that for some reason they deserve better than anyone else simply because. So get off you high horse. I wonder how you would feel right now if things were turned around a bit and you were the one unemployed? It's funny how when you are blessed and have so much that you enjoy pissing on the guy who has nothing, not even a job.
