Today in total planetary collapse: "An increase in the number of whales with sunburnt skin has been documented by scientists after they took photographs and tissue samples of the animals. In the worst-hit species – the blue whale – researchers found that the numbers affected rose by 56 per cent between 2007 and 2009, which they said has 'worrying' implications for their health."

And you were all against Burns' sun blocking machine.

Have we learned nothing about using U.K. newspapers (well, any newspapers for that matter, as a source for science things).

"It is not clear what is causing this increase." Maybe it's that we just started counting this decade and have no real numbers to compare them to! Or maybe the "in" thing among blue whales this year is the GTL!

I thought this piece in the Atlantic, though mostly about medical science, should be applied to all science news … or science "news."

It's all part of god's fucked up plan.

I think you'll find that this has more to do with most whales now having easy access to re-runs of Paris Hilton and the Kardashian's reality shows.

The real question is whether they're following a trend or trying to end their lives due to exposure to reality tv?

How about the Snook-orcas?

Won't the whales just evolve into a new color!?
