The comparing of translated texts of one's favorite works of art is an infuriating process. One seldom knows whom one is in love with.
So what was the phrase which got translated as "By Jove!" or "No Way!" and what did she make it?
Sorry to sound like this, but her translation was just reviewed in the NY Rev of Books in which the above questions were answered. Translation is so interesting in so many ways.
