"The Stones have not written a song of consequence in thirty years, but they have survived four decades longer than their great contemporaries the Beatles."
—David Remnick reviews Keith Richards' memoir Life (subscription only, sorry). Man, why is there no love for "She's So Cold"? It's UNFAIR.

Remnick\'s arithmetic is off. \"Undercover of the Night\" was released in 1983.

I kid, but I also kind of like that song. And I was really glad to hear about this epically \'80s video for the song, via the Wiki page on that opus, \"featuring Jagger as detective helping a woman follow her boyfriend\'s kidnappers and Richards as the leader of the kidnappers who eventually shoots Jagger.\" Spoiler alert?

I kind of LOVE "She's So Cold," especially the perfectly timed enunciation of "Who would believe you were a beauty in-deed/when the days get shorter and the nights. get. long?" The turn from third to second person is also pleasing. SONG GOOD. WILL PLAY NAO.

She's So Cold was released in 1980 so technically there's still a 30 year absence of consequence. Because yeah -She's So Cold is all about the consequence.

Bridges to Babylon is entirely underrated. Particularly the Keith songs, which practically simmer. This bit of received wisdom is kind of grating but what can you do?

B2B will never be able to overcome its cover art.

Hey! Bittersweet Symphony is only thirteen years old!

I suppose the Beatles' breaking up 40 years ago might play a part in this survival calculus. And that part about the tragic business with John. And George getting the C. And John burying Paul.

Or Ringo, insisting of performing.

P.S.: I've always had a bit of fun with some of the songs on Dirty Work, but "consequence," that's maybe a bit strong.

P.S. II: Good work, Keith, naming your bio after an inconsequential Neil Young album.

What about "Thru and Thru"? One of Keith's best! It's like no one saw the finale of "The Sopranos" second season.
