It's Bryan Ferry vs. Brian Eno in the battle of Roxy Music founders with new solo records out. I've listened to the new Ferry a couple of times, and it's… fine. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Bryan Ferry solo record. (I do love the way "You Can Dance" cribs its opening from Roxy's "True to Life.") Haven't heard the Eno yet but, really, could it possibly be bad?

Heard a new Eno song yesterday. It was pretty, but did tend to encourage somnolence.

(Love the True to Life sample in the Ferry song. A friend of mine says he can't really sing. Really?)

I worship the ground Bryan Ferry walks on but what I've heard of the new album it just sort of drifted past prettily without making an impact, but I think that about most of what he's done since 'Avalon' – move on Bryan!

First overshare of the day (but I'm planning Drunk Lunch so it likely won't be the last): Lost my V to side One of "The Atlantic Years." On vinyl. Still think "Oh Yeah" is one of the most romantic songs of all time.

In retrospect, I see many of my most eventually toxic romantic decisions were made under the influence of Roxy Music.

And I would totally do disgusting things with Bryan Ferry if he asked.

It's the early, creepy Dream Home Heartache stuff that gets me all riled up… I once saw him sing at the Philadelphia Gershman Y; we all sat on folding chairs. He makes me want to do things. Filthy, dirty things.

Avalon: Clothes off by the third song. Or is that just what I was told?

I've come to think of Bryan Ferry's work as swanky chick music. Like the sort of thing a woman would listen to while shaking up some negronis. Admittedly, this is my fantasy woman. But I know she exists.

I fucking love these guys.

The new Ferry does sound like Avalon part 2, which ain't bad. I'd love for it to have been more along the lines of Country Life, though.

The Eno album is great. It is like his ambient albums mixed in with a bit of Another Green World. I approve. Glad to see him turn around after that unfortunate vocal album.

While I get that he can't make another 'Country Life' (or, please Jesus, 'For Your Pleasure') I do wish he'd stop remaking 'Avalon'
