I thought Maureen Dowd was on vacation all summer. But I was just forgetting to look. Now I'm glad about that.

I'm not really a catfight kind of girl, but she makes me want to Vaseline my face* and start scratching.
*I learned this on Six Feet Under, not, like, in the ring or anything.
As far as I'm concerned, Alex Pareene's 2008 Dowd takedown is non-pareil and remains an exemplar of calling out stupid D.C. media on their relentless, mean-spirited bullshit.

AGREE.
Ha, that is some wild fucked up stuff! (I wrote this comment yesterday in anticipation of today's modo post)
I will summarize the summer of Dowd for you.
-One great column slamming the Pope and the Catholic Church.
-Three columns interviewing guys she's either dated, worked with or randomly met online (including some cougar-bait child who started emailing her about old-timey movies.) These columns were basically free add space for whatever project the men happened to be working on that week.
-About four columns talking about what a wuss Obama is (think she just recycled old Al Gore columns and substituted the word "professorial" for "sweater")
-And a few non-memorable columns where she used lazy, mean-girl snark to make up for the lack of actual wit and cleverness.
Pssst, Dowd's angry-Cathlick columns are just as ignorant and under-researched and lazily snarky as all the other stuff. It's just harder to tell.
It is unbecoming a man, that the first thing he does is criticize a lady's tastes in decorating.
Too late for the thread perhaps — but throwing it out there….
Don't care what Maureen is doing?!
But: can you explain the disappearance, at the TImes, of Manohla Dargis?
I have noticed — and remember when Elvis Mitchell, who was great, evaporated. Is this happening again?
/cause A.O. Scott is, in fact, a putz
