The Extremely Far-Off Green Pea Galaxies

GREEEEN PEEEAAASS"Round or elliptical galaxies are huge and almost always reddish. Spiral galaxies are less huge but still large and almost always bluish. Galaxies that are small are almost never round and certainly not green. By July, 2008, the Zooites had found enough of these galaxies they were now calling Green Peas-their slogan, Give Peas a Chance!-that astronomers were getting seriously interested. So astronomers did what they always do with a new project, they gave it to a graduate student, this one named Carie."

Those pictures are amazing and what detail. Why I can practically taste the peaness when I look at them.

Don't be mean. The pictures were taken with a puny little 2.5 meter telescope which was remarkable only because it took so many of them. Officially, a bazillion.

Sorry Annie. I was just trying to pull something. I do think they're an amazing set of balls.

Those pictures are so vivid, like music from a tiny pianist in each ear.

@Cap'n: If anything, these picture prove the old adage that it's not the size of the telescope but the way aan astronomer uses it.

Annie K. (#3,563)

I've had to say this before: you guys. However, I do like the image of a tiny pianist in each ear and I don't know why it seems to fit those peas pictures so well.

I CAN'T EVEN FIGURE OUT HOW MANY LIGHT YEARS IT IS, IT'S SO FAR.

HiredGoons (#603)

Can we please name this galaxy Lina Blair?

HiredGoons (#603)

Noooooooooo! Linda.

deepomega (#1,720)

Lina Blair is an accountant from Ohio.

My downstairs neighbor put up a ceramic sign of peas that reads "PEAS COME IN", and I snarl every time I walk past it. But now I really want to apologize to her, because the Galaxy Zooites are just so humble and utopian and I want to play too, and Green Peas Galaxies!

Smitros (#5,315)

Which galaxies are smooth, and which ones are wrinkly?

deepomega (#1,720)

"This close, they always look like landscape. But nope, you're looking at balls."

Annie K. (#3,563)

Honestly, garge is the only civilized one in the whole room.

Smitros (#5,315)

I was referring to Gregor Mendel's pea-based and pioneering work in genetics.

Though deepomega's scrotacular interpretation isn't bad.

Annie K. (#3,563)

Ok, Smitros, you're civilized too, also educated.
