PSA: A Benefit for RightRides, the Get-Home-Safe Program for Ladies & Gays
Did you know that there's a program in New York City to offer safe rides home to women, the gays and various gender-non-conforming people? It's true! You can get a safe ride home from midnight to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights in 45 neighborhoods in New York City. Also, you can now buy tickets for their October benefit to support that volunteer effort.
Will there be a test?
The test is whether you are repulsed by their vehicle's rainbow paint job.
"Driving Teams can only drive women and LGBTQ individuals home." I'm sincerely confused about how this works. I mean, bros don't take advantage?
Do they take one's word for it, or is there a trouser check?
If you're a guy they make you blow the driver.
I assume there is a forty-part screen for the volunteers?
That's 10 bucks you don't have to spend on a cab for more drinking!
As a gay who is both lazy and often poor… I can say without hesitation that this is sounds like the BEST CHARITY EVER.

this is fantastic.
I love Right Rides so much. I've been using them since 2007 and have never had a negative experience. Their driving teams are always incredibly nice and sociable. I evangelize about them every chance I get.
So all I need to hit on drunk guys is to volunteer?

I used to volunteer for Right Rides back when it was "Right Rides for Women's Safety". Now it is "Right Rides for Everyone's Safety except Straight Dudes". This just seems considerably less awesome.
