Clear your calendars now: Next year, we can all gather at a monument in South Carolina ("about 20 feet long, 10 feet wide and at least 12 feet tall") to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hootie & The Blowfish.

I am 24 in October. The monument will be constructed at my favorite whiskey bar out of those awesome compressed ice balls. It will be 18x6x10 because I don't want to preempt Hootie's moment.

Remember when a monument was a testament to mankind's perseverance, great achievements, and tragedies?

Oh, I see, they really pulled the hat trick off and fit in all those categories. They persevered a decade and a half before reaching Loverboy level "awesomeness" and crashing back down at the turn of the millenium.

I will never forget a mid-to-late '90s MTV special about rock stars and their varying money management styles. Mostly it was cutting back and forth between the guys from Hootie saying "Well, of course you need to set aside money for your quarterly taxes, and then the rest you want to put into a varied portfolio, with some money liquid and others in more long-term investments" and MC Hammer saying things like "If I had it all to do over again, I wouldn't have had the waterfall installed in the living room."

Now Charlottesville is going to have to build a 50ft. statue of Dave Matthews.
