$320,000 Car Designed To Maim Pedestrians

KILLER B"Bentley Motors is recalling 596 vehicles in the United States because of a rust problem with the flying 'B' hood ornament…. As a result of a part rusting, the 'B' may not retract when struck, causing additional injury to a pedestrian," according to this snarky Times blog report.

Thought this was a selling point?

It was. They weren't getting enough press, so they issued a recall. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

If I were mowed down by a Bentley, I would be disappointed if I didn't come away with a B-shaped impalement.

What was really happening is the B doesn't rotate properly upon impact, causing improper branding on the pedestrian's backside.

Ah, a retracting hood ornament. Now $320,000 makes sense.

I'm struck by how overpriced the ornament mover is.

Replace it with a galley ram.

Reminds me of the time a DC inspector turned down my car because a dent exposed the door hinge and so "someone could catch a finger in it.". To which I said "dude it's a door, so someone could already get their hand caught in it. And it's on a 1000 lb car that can go 140 miles an hour." One more argument
I've lost in this life.

Ironically, the rust problem can be prevented by regularly oiling with the blood of pedestrians.
